Christmas 2016

ja

Christmas was celebrated in Cantina Granveien, as it has been for the past 5 years. We have many traditions, including the yearly santa hat photo as seen above. For us Christmas is centered around food and wine with several wine paired meals. The day before Christmas Eve (Lillejulaften) seafood and white wine is on the menu. This year it was 2002 themed with Comtes Laffo and Bonneau du Martray. Very interesting stuff.

Drinking my way through NYC

When I was in NYC last I had the opportunity to try a lot of wines. I think my favorites were the Dominique Lafon Bourgogne and the Burlotto Barbera d’Alba.

Another cool wine we drank was the Bruno Giacosa Dolcetto 1994. 22 year old grape juice is always fun to try. This one was quite funky at first but got better and better as the night went on.

NYC Day 3

We decided to take it rather slow today. Graduation photo shoot in the morning, some shopping and walking and then a late lunch at Charlie Bird. I always thought the menu was kinda funky, and today was no exception. But I am so glad we went here! The wine list is good, but there is another wine list that is epic. It might be a secret so I won’t say more, but we ordered off the regular wine list, Dominique Lafon Bourgogne and Cascina Fontana Barolo 2010. Good stuff.

The food is also very cool, interesting combinations and well put together plates. And it tastes good of course. What was even cooler was that we met Arvid, the sommelier who won the world championship of sommeliers. Congratulations to Charlie Bird and Arvid! And thank you for a fantastic meal!

Beijing Palace Oslo

A few months ago I discovered this gem with my parents. Hidden away in Oslo, is a truly fascinating Asian restaurant. They have a wide variety of dim sum, good sushi and other asian dinner dishes. The food is very good, which is hard to come by outside of Asia. But the best part about this place is not the food, it’s the wine list.

In a funny plot twist, they have two different wine lists. The one on the menu and a separate one with a larger selection. The second, secret list, has wines you never would have guessed, like Comte Liger Belair, G Roumier and Comtes Lafon. Absolutely incredible! And almost no mark up. If you are interested in wines and find yourself in Oslo, Beijing Palace is a must!

Check out their menu here: http://www.beijingpalace.org/meny/

PS: If you’re on intsagram, check out hongwat, he is the guy to talk to about the wines.
