Throwback to working hard (or hardly working) at Vinitaly 2017 with “The Boss”

It may not be a surprise that I spent my time at Vinitaly in the Piemonte section. Many of my friends were there presenting their wines, including of course Giovanni Corino. Their labels were recently “updated” and as you can see they were on display at the fair. As I have tasted all their wines many times before, my stop there was mostly to say hello.

Also displayed at the fair was their new brochure. A beautiful collection of photos and of course information about their wines! You can read more about their winery here.

Ok. I am not sure where to start. This may be the most insane wine event I have ever attended. There is just miles and miles of wine. I spent 5 hours there and I didn’t even get to see all the wineries in the Piemonte hall that I wanted to see. For the first 30 minutes I just wandered around, trying to get a lay of the land. If I go another time I will definitely do some more research and plan ahead. I would also like to stay more then 1 day, as 1 day is definitely not enough. Below are a few (of the many) pictures I snapped of the day.

Are you going? I hope to be there Sunday. Maybe I’ll see you there!

Every summer the town of Barolo hosts a music festival in its city center. They have pretty impressive lineups; last year Sting performed, and this year Robbie Williams will perform.
If you are in the area around the 16th and 17th of July, check it out!
Check out their website for more information!

I am! Every year in La Morra there is a wine event called Mangialonga. You basically drink and eat along a path and it ends with a big party in the town square of La Morra. Definately worth a try if you are in the area!
This year Mangialonga is Sunday August 28th!

Riccardo Sgarra with Paolo Scavino
When I was a student in Boston, I tried to go to as many wine tastings as I could. At a Vineyard Road tasting I ran into Riccardo who works at Paolo Scavino. It is always a pleasure when someone who works at the winery or makes the wine comes to the tastings. It makes it a lot more personal. I met Riccardo again when I was in Barolo last summer, he gave me a tour of the winery and then we tasted some wines. They were as good as I remember.
You can check out their wines here.
