News @ Vinmonopolet

Norwegians are getting ready for all the wines being released on Friday. I’ve been lucky to try a few (or more) beforehand and here are some of my favorites.

Weingut Walter Kabinett Riesling 2018

I’ve grown more and more fond of Riesling the past year, and this was a pretty good one. Must admit I don’t know a lot about the winery and how the wine is made, but I quite like the Kabinett from Weingut Walter. And it’s available at a very decent price as well.

Cigliuti Langhe Nebbiolo 2018

You’re probably not surprised that a Langhe Nebbiolo for Piemonte made the list. Claudia Cigliuti from Neive makes really good wines. She might be most known for the Serraboella, but I quite like the Langhe Nebbiolo. I might have priced it a little lower (the Altare Nebbiolo is 285kr and the Trediberri Nebbiolo is 189kr), but it’s always good with some variety!

Lamy Saint-Aubin La Princée 2017

Summer is over but one need not fret; it’s king crab season! And it’s never wrong to pair Hubert Lamy with king crab. With notes of citrus and white stone fruit, and of course a hint of oak, Hubert Lamy does not disappoint!

Available in BU at Vinmonopolet (11347101) 388kr

Cavallotto Barolo Bricco Boschis Riserva San Giuseppe 2013

I think the words Cavallotto, Bricco Boschis and Riserva say it all. But I’ll say more anyways. Obviously still very young, but with incredible potential. Tannins are persistent, but disappear after a while and you’re left with wonderful notes of fruit.

New spot in Serralunga: Osteria Tre Case

Osteria Tre case id officially on the list of new places to eat!

Osteria tre Case

I always get teased because I usually go to the same restaurants and eat the same things. This summer, I tried a new restaurant in Serralunga! Osteria Tre Case, located in the center of Serralunga, is a relatively new restaurant. And let me tell you: you should definitely try it!

On the menu you will find tajarin, ravioli, panna cotta and cheese from Castelmagno (and many more things). The food was very good, great wine list and wonderful staff – what else can you ask for? Oh, and it’s always fun when you order a wine and then the winemaker shows up! Herzu is my favorite!

Check out the website here. And as always I encourage you to make reservation, not just show up. Besides, a restaurant this good will fill up quickly! If you go, tell Veronica I say hi!

White Wine for the summer under 300kr

White wine mood?

Looking for a good white wine to drink this summer?

White Wine

It’s summer, and white wine is on the menu for many people. Vinmonopolet has many good wines, but here are a few of my favorite ones you can find now. Note: some you may have to order, they might not be at a specific Vinmonpol that you visit. And for non Norwegain readers, I am sure you can find them other places too!

Herzu by Ettore Germano

A light, dry, refreshing riesling that is grown in Piemonte. I am not usually a big fan of riesling because I find them too sweet, but this one is perfect. Truly one of my favorite white wines!

Bourgogne Chardonnay by Matrot

Matrot makes wonderful wines, and what’s even better is that you can find a really good one under 200kr. They are proof that amazing wines do not have to cost a fortune. Truly a fresh, balanced wine.

Bourgogne Chardonnay by Carillon

Another good chardonnay that’s also not very expensive. Carillon produces great white burgundy, and it’s great that we can drink such good wines without breaking the bank!

Macon-Villages by Jean-Marc Boillot

Macon-Village is one of my favorite appellations in burgundy. There are so many good producers that make Macon-Villages, and JM Boillot is no exception.

Ettore ‘Sergio’ Germano

Ettore ‘Sergio’ Germano produces wine in Serralunga D’Alba in Piemonte, Italy. At a tasting this summer, I had the pleasure of tasting both his reds and his whites. My personal favorite was the Herzu riesling, a refreshing white wine that is a recurring one in Cantina Granveien, also know as my home. I don’t have much experience with his reds, but from what I can remember, they were quite good. I met Sergio for the first time this summer, and will be sure to return again soon.
