Barolo Night 3.0 Round 1

barolo night sthlm round 1Voerzio la serra 1998

Dark brown, sort of old color. On the nose there were cherries, some toffee, raspberries. Despite the age there were still tannins present, albeit not forceful ones. I liked this one a lot!

Massolino Margheria 2008

On the nose there was a sweetness, rose hip, berries. A little dry in the mouth and we could tell there was some age to it. For me it had very masculine tendencies, very typical of the Massolino wines. All in all, very good. And 2008 is in general very approachable now.

Renato Corino Arborina 2014

Very interesting to see this baby next to the older wines. On the nose there was a nice smell of roses and rose hip. Compared to the other wines this had a lot of tannins, but still very approachable. Looking forward to try more 2014 in the upcoming weeks.

Barolo Night Stockholm Edition

Barolo Night 3.0

We are continuing the success of Barolo Night, this time destionation: Stockholm!

As per usual, we start the weekend with Friday Pizza and some “low key” wines. As you can see in the picture below the “low key” wines are quickly escalating! We did blind tasting Friday as well – because why not?? For me Wine of the Night was the Voerzio barbera, which is strange because his wine are normally not my taste. Vietti at a close second, but who are we kidding: all the wines are good!

barolo night sthlm friday

Saturday went a little crazy – look at that lineup! Double blind tasting, as in we didn’t know which wines were which when we were tasting, not even our own. Super interesting both to compare the ones in each round but also comparing them all at the end. More detailed notes will follow!

Pylsa & Barolo

Pylsa og Barolo lineup

Happy birthday, dad!

It’s that time of year again. Pylsa & Barolo. Hot dogs and red wine.

Pylsa & Barolo 2018 went off without a hitch and as you can see we drank some good wines. We started the night off with champagne from Pierre Peters (a bubbly that even I enjoy) and moved into 2011 barolo while eating hot dogs flown in from Idsøe in Stavanger.

2011 is supposed to be a very approachable vintage now, but for me it is still too young. We all know I prefer older barolo. Unfortunately I did not make it to all of the wines as many disappeared long before they reached my table. But some of my favorites include Vietti Castiglione, Marengo Brunate and Bartolo Mascarello. I had some Altare Cerretta, and although this is a very good wine, for me it is a little too masculine and should have stayed in the cellar another decade.

Top 5 Hotels in Barolo

Not in any particular order, these are some of the best hotels in the barolo area. And remember, since I usually stay at Corte Gondina or in an aribnb, my hotel “knowledge” is somehow limited. But if you are looking for a hotel, these 5 are good ones.

  • Corte Condina
  • Rocche Costemagna
  • Palais Cerequio
  • Relais le Rocche
  • Le Torri

Corte Gondina

No doubt this is my favorite (we all know I love this hotel and the family that runs it). If you want more info, check out my previous post.

Between €100 – $200 per room

Rocche Costamagna

This is a very good option right in the center of La Morra. It’s always nice to stay in the center where everything is walking distance.

Between €140 – $280 per room

Palais Cerequio

This is probably the most luxurious hotel in Langhe, and I’ve only ever had dinner there but WOW. You’ll find this gem a little outside of La Morra – gorgeous rooms with a breathtaking view.

Between €190 – $700 per room

Relais le Rocche

I have never stayed here myself, but from what I hear (and have seen) this is a beautiful hotel.

Between €250 – €310 per room

Le Torri

Le Torri is located in Castiglione Falletto, right next to Vietti, and has a beautiful view of Langhe. And there is of course the amazing restaurant Le Torri attached, so that’s a reason to stay there (in case you had trouble finding one)

Between €80 – €150 per room
