New spot in Serralunga: Osteria Tre Case

I always get teased because I usually go to the same restaurants and eat the same things. This summer, I tried a new restaurant in Serralunga! Osteria Tre Case, located in the center of Serralunga, is a relatively new restaurant. And let me tell you: you should definitely try it!

On the menu you will find tajarin, ravioli, panna cotta and cheese from Castelmagno (and many more things). The food was very good, great wine list and wonderful staff – what else can you ask for? Oh, and it’s always fun when you order a wine and then the winemaker shows up! Herzu is my favorite!

Winery Wednesday

IMG_9873In the outskirts of Serralunga you will find Ettore Germano. Sergio, the winemaker, just finished building a new tasting room, and it is beautiful! One of the main reasons I visit Ettore Germano is for his riesling, Herzu! It might sound strange to visit a winery in Barolo to drink Riseling, but Herzu is truly one of my favorite wines!

The new tasting room has a beautiful view of the Langhe, although we didn’t really get to see anything because of the rain. But I am sure the view hasn’t changed much from the last time I tasted with Sergio so I can assure you it’s beautiful. There’s nothing like drinking good wine with a gorgeous view!

Ettore Germano makes quite a few wines; 14 different ones, including 2 sparkling. There are many interesting wines in the lineup, including Binel (Riesling/Chardonnay), Balaú (merlot) and Barolo Prapò (a fairly unknown cru).

NYC Day 1

It is so good to be back. I went directly from the airport to my brothers apartment, dropped my bags and headed straight for Lupa! Truly one of my favorite places. I always feel like I am coming home. I had a few glasses of Moscato, said hello to Joel, my favorite person at Lupa and met up with some friends.

After Lupa, my family and I went to Maialino for dinner. Maialinos food is good, but it’s the wine list that has us coming back for more. They have a ton of cool old stuff that is not too expensive and the selection is huge. Tonight we had Herzu by Ettore Germano, Langhe Nebbiolo by Burlotto and a 1994 Dolcetto by Bruno Giacosa. A great start to my NYC trip!

Favorite Italian Whites Part 1

Pinner, Cavallotto: Cavallotto is obe of my favorite producers, their reds are fantastic. But I also love their whites. They make two, a Langhe Chardonnay and their Pinner. Although they are both good, I prefer the Pinner. It’s a 100% Pinot Noir

Herzu, Ettore Germano: Mr. Sergio Germano makes many good wines, but the Herzu is by far my favorite! It’s a Riesling, but tastes nothing like it. It’s fresh and earthy, and not that sweet. I definitely recommend it.

Cinqueterre, Elio Altare: Elio has a big heart, an ambitious mind and kind soul. His project in Cinqueterre is helping save the land and prevent more mudslides. He makes wine on the steep hills near the ocean. It’s hard work, all done by hand and that’s why the wines are a little expensive. His Cinqueterre white wine is one of my favorites. Ettore ‘Sergio’ Germano

Ettore ‘Sergio’ Germano produces wine in Serralunga D’Alba in Piemonte, Italy. At a tasting this summer, I had the pleasure of tasting both his reds and his whites. My personal favorite was the Herzu riesling, a refreshing white wine that is a recurring one in Cantina Granveien, also know as my home. I don’t have much experience with his reds, but from what I can remember, they were quite good. I met Sergio for the first time this summer, and will be sure to return again soon.
