Meeting Giovanni Corino’s geese

This was a very strange but fun experience. Those geese were crazy, but they loved Giovanni. FYI I did not pet the goose. Not even close.

Lunch at Ciccio

Imagine 30+ crazy norwegians signing at the top of their lungs in Serralunga. Ciccio couldn’t believe his eyes. I wonder if we’re allowed to come back?

I am excite to see what this summer will bring! Stay tuned!

London Baby!

London Baby!

I think London is becoming one of my favorite places. Piemonte is still at the top of course, but London is an extraordinary city. Apart from the sights, there are many top of the line restaurants and wine shops, so for a wine interested foodie, it’s like heaven.

Apart from doing some shopping and sightseeing, the main topic of this trip was food! Brunch, lunch, dinner – you name it! Ever heard of the Granger & Co? It’s a small chain of restaurants in the London area, with a total of four locations. You can also find some locations abroad. Anyway, fantastic brunch spot! I had the ricotta pancakes and I almost ordered another serving. So good! So if you’re ever in the area, check them out!

I didn’t have time to check out any wine stores this time around, but thankfully my wine fridge is fully stocked. If you have any tips for my next trip to London, let me know!

Granger & Co – Brunching in London

Granger & Co

During my last trip to London, Granger & Co was my favorite stop. It seems it’s a popular spot, because we had to wait in line for quite a bit. But it was worth it once we got inside. Beautiful decor, nice staff and incredible food! I rarely brunch, but since I was on vacation, brunch was on the schedule. It’s usually when I am travelling I do brunch. Last time I think was in NYC with Silvia Altare, at Little Park.

Granger & Co was started by Bill Granger, an australian restaurateur and he has restaurants in four locations in the London area. His restaurants can also be found abroad in Sydney, Honolulu, Tokyo and Seoul.

Even though I had the Ricotta Hotcakes, there are other more healthy alternatives, so that your brunch experience doesn’t have to be all butter and sugar. To accompany my hotcakes I had a delicious glass of freshly squeezed orange juice, which was one of their many options on the drink menu. Yum!

Anyways, if you go to one of Bill Granger’s restaurants or if you have already been, let me know what you think! Always nice to share stories and experiences.

La Morra: A little piece of heaven

La Morra – my favorite place on earth

My latest trip to La Morra was fantastic! I always say that, but that’s because it’s true. This time I tried 3 new wineries, had lunch with a good friend and celebrated my graduation – quite the schedule!

La Morra

Everyone makes fun of me because I usually see all the same people, eat at the same restaurants and eat the same foods. I know I should venture out, try new things, but when the Vitello Tonnato is soooooo good, then I don’t have any choice, right? Look at the picture below – looks so good right?

Osteria Veglio, La Morra

3 new wineries in La Morra

I did try 3 new wineries this time: Andrea Oberto, Marcarini and Alberto Burzi. It was very interesting to meet new people, hear their stories and try new wines. All 3  visits had their own charm. Andrea Oberto spoke only italian and I ended up having to translae for some other guests. At Marcarini, the woman who showed me around, started to work with the family and then fell in love with the son. And Alberto Burzi just started his winery, it was so interesting to hear his story.

Hope to be back in La Morra soon! A la prossima!

My upcoming trip to Barolo

Italy Summer 2012 1032 - Version 3

With the trip fast approaching, many plans have fallen into place. This time I would like to try a few new things as well as revisiting my favorite spots and my favorite people. Here are some of my stops this trip.

More e Macine

This osteria has become a staple during my trips, usually with multiple visits. Lunch, dinner, aperitivo, coffee; whatever it may be, this place always welcomes you. It also happens to be where I am celebrating my birthday!

Manzone

I always try to do something new, visit someone new or try something different, and this time I am visiting Manzone. Manzone is located in Monforte and the family has been making wine since 1925. Today it is Mirella and Mauro along with their father Giovanni who are working at the winery. I’m excited to meet them!

Centro Storico

Tucked away in Serralunga you find Ciccio at his wonderful restaurant Centro Storico. I already reserved a table and I can’t wait to sit down and watch him carve prosciutto at the counter.

Silvia Altare

I can’t wait to wrap my arms around my dear friend Silvia. It has been way to long since I saw her! And, they got a new puppy at the winery! The picture below is Silvia’s mother, Lucia, with their new puppy.

Osteria Veglio

Since the new owners have taken over, this is one of my favorite places to go. Sitting on that balcony overlooking the vineyards while eating one of the best panna cotta’s ever know to man is always on the list!
