Burlotto Aves: Toni’s new obssession. And honestly, can you blame him? Burlotto has been a favorite for quite some time, but for some reasone the Aves 2016 has really impressed Toni (an myself). When you drink it you think that this is how a barbera should taste.

Aurelio Settimo

During my visit to Piemonte this time around I decided to visit a few new wineries. Aurelio Settimo was one of them. The winery started making their own wine in the 1950’s, after having been farmers for decades.

Today, the winery is run by Tiziana, the daugther of Aurelio, and the philosophy of the winery is to focus on quality while keeping with tradition.

Aurelio Settimo only produces red wine and among those is the Rocche dell’Annunziata.

The winemaking follows the traditional method with big botti and no toast. The majority of the grapes are nebbiolo, 5.7 hectares and the rest is dolcetto, about 1 hectars.

During my visit I tasted 6 wines, a wonderful lineup. First up the dolcetto, one of my favorite grapes! Then Langhe Nebbiolo followed by 4 Barolo’s. I was lucky enough to taste their Rocche Riserva 2009 and Rocche 2005.

Best Wine Lists in Oslo

The Norwegian Sommelier Organization and Kapital will announce who has the Best Wine List in different categories, which include Best in the Country, Best Bubbles, Best By The Glass and Best in Town.

Personally I think Cru is missing from the list, but I may not be objective. Still one of my favorite spots.

Barolo Night Oslo

Remember the Barolo Night I had in Sweden? This weekend was Barolo Night 2.0 Oslo edition! Oh man did we drink some good wines. The layout of these Barolo Weekends are starting to form, and so on Friday we eat pizza and drink Pizza Wines. Check out these amazing Pizza Wines in the picture below.

Represented in the first night were some amazing producers: Rinaldi, Alessandro Veglio, Vietti, Bartolo Mascarello and Azelia. And we hit all the typical Piemonte/Barolo categories: Dolcetto, Barbera, Langhe Nebbiolo and Barolo.

Saturday is the big wine tasting night, with blind tasting and tasting sheets. This time it was 9 wines and 4 people – maybe a tad much but we went with it. We do 3 and 3 wines at a time, taking time to smell and taste and discuss before we reveal. And once we are through all the wines, we just drink and enjoy.
